Amit Vyawahare is a master’s student in the Computer Science and Engineering program at the University of Missouri. He expects to graduate in December 2010. Since arriving from India in August 2007, he has worked on a number of digital publishing projects for the Reynolds Journalism Institute (RJI) and Missouri School of Journalism.

Working with Roger Fidler, the RJI Program Director for Digital Publishing and an internationally recognized new media pioneer, Vyawahare developed JavaScript automation tools for use with Adobe InDesign and Acrobat that reduced production time for digital editions of newsbooks and magazines by an average of 8-10 hours. He also created enhanced features for the RJI and School of Journalism websites using the Cascade content management system.

In 2010, Vyawahare’s team was award first prize in the RJI Student Interactive Design Competition sponsored by Adobe Systems and Hearst Corporation.  The team’s winning entry was a data-driven advertising application that included photo galleries using Adobe Flash Catalyst and Flex. The prize made it possible for Vyawahare and the other members of his team to meet with Adobe executives in San Francisco and to present their work at the World Expo in Shanghai. Also in 2010, the University of Missouri recognized him as the Outstanding Graduate Student in the Computer Science and Engineering program.
