The Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute partnered with market intelligence and advisory firm, Guidewire Group, on the Innovate!2010 global competition to identify and promote up-and-coming technology and media startups. The two-day workshop and event included a student-only workshop and pitch review, a professional pitch slam, guest speakers on creating a successful business, and a review of local opportunities to help get your idea off the ground.

What: Workshop and Pitch Event
Where: Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute;

Who attended – anyone with a technology or media business proposal to pitch:

  • University of Missouri students
  • Students from other Missouri universities and colleges
  • Missouri entrepreneurs and innovators

What they did:

  • Discovered resources nearby to help develop your idea into a marketable proposal
  • Learned how to answer the seven key questions when seeking outside investment in your idea
  • Pitched idea to a panel of investors with a chance to win a trip to a global competition that will select the 100 most innovative ideas in the world.
  • Got professional evaluation of your pitch to refine it for the next pitch

Student Workshop (Open to students with pitch proposals only, registration required)

  • Workshop on preparing pitches
  • Present pitch to panel of judges, with feedback from judges
  • Time to revamp pitch and present a 2nd time to judges
  • Chance to pitch in afternoon Innovate100 Pitch Slam
  • Best Student Pitch wins a trip to National Pitch Slam Contest in New York, Los Angeles or San Francisco
