Joy Mayer brings industry leaders to RJI for community engagement brainstorm

In key places, journalism is being reimagined and rebuilt.

One of those places is at the Reynolds Journalism Institute at the University of Missouri and many of the other journalism schools I've visited with in the Midwest. They're digging in -- just as we're trying to do at the Chicago Tribune. And it's gratifying.

One of the things I learned while visiting RJI last week is that, by their accounting, a growing number of news organizations have realized that one key to the future is staying in touch more meaningfully with the community they cover and serve.

I'd been participating in a gathering of creative minds in the news industry and outside of it to brainstorm concrete strategies for that kind of engagement by news organizations. Journalism for the networked world.
