Pictures of the Year International (POYi), a print and digital exhibition of some of the best photojournalism from 2010, will be displayed at the Newseum in Washington, D.C. from April to October 2011. New for the 2010 competition are special categories for the coverage of the mid-term political races, the earthquake in Haiti, the Gulf of Mexico oil disaster and the Winter Olympics.

Located on Pennsylvania Avenue in the heart of the nation's capital, the Newseum provides the public with displays and interactive experiences that reflect the impact and role of journalism. "POYi is deeply honored to collaborate with the Newseum, the representative landmark for a free and open press," said POYi director Rick Shaw. "POYi treasures this opportunity to work with the Newseum to celebrate the impact of documentary photography and highlight the work of the world's best photojournalists."

POYi will launch its 68th annual "Call for Entries" on Nov. 22, providing complete details for submissions and definitions for all 45 categories. Competition categories include photojournalism, documentary projects, online multimedia, and visual editing. Registration and entry uploading will be accessible online from Dec. 13 through Jan. 14. All entries will be judged during three consecutive weeks in February at the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute at the Missouri School of Journalism in Columbia, Mo.

Pictures of the Year International is the oldest and one of the most prestigious photojournalism competitions in the world. Each year POYi honors the best documentary photography and photojournalism, setting the gold standard for excellence. The POYi exhibition showcases a selection of the 240 winners from the most recent judging in February. Through exhibitions and workshops, POYi serves those photojournalists who chronicle the news events, political trends, and social issues facing our world. Now in its 68th year, POYi continues to recognize and promote excellence in photojournalism.

The mission of Pictures of the Year International is to extend the reach of photojournalists though educational public exhibitions and engage citizens worldwide with great documentary photography. POYi is a program of the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute.
