Janet Coats is the New Media Journalism Initiative Manager for The Patterson Foundation, based in Sarasota, Fl., where she focuses on developing networks that enable journalism innovators to connect. With her husband, Rusty Coats, she runs a consultancy company, Coats2Coats, that helps clients thrive in a media future. Coats is a 1984 graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism. Prior to her work with The Patterson Foundation, she served as a managing editor of The Wichita Eagle and executive editor of the Sarasota Herald-Tribune and the Tampa Tribune.
