Five teams are taking the next step in the RJI iPhone Student Competition with applications that focus on gaming, new advertising strategies and location-based services. A panel of judges chose the five from 13 teams of journalism, computer science and business students who took part in Pitch Night on November 20th in RJI’s Fred W. Smith Forum.
The finalists will receive up to $3,000 per team to complete research, development and marketing of their news, information and advertising apps by mid-March of 2009.

They five finalist teams will travel to Cupertino, CA on January 29-30, 2009 to receive advice from Apple’s iPhone engineers and marketers. Each team is also receiving free service from AT&T Mobility to develop its app and test it with real consumers.
The iPhone Developer Competition follows on the heels of last year’s successful Adobe AIR Competition. RJI sponsors these contests to deliver solutions for local media through the innovation and entrepreneurship of top students.
