On April 14, 2012, RJI played host to TEDxMU, the Mizzou campus’ first independently organized version of TED, the global set of conferences formed to disseminate "ideas worth spreading." Featuring a diverse lineup of speakers, the day-long event offered a spectrum of topics that were selected from more than 60 prospective presenters.

Reynolds Fellow debuts social media classified ad platform at Silicon Valley Launch Festival

Peter Meng, 2011-2012 fellow at the Reynolds Journalism Institute at the University of Missouri School of Journalism has developed a digital classified ad platform that incorporates social media to help newspapers win back classified advertising from other online sources. It is estimated that recent digital disruption of conventional classified advertising has cost traditional news organizations billions in lost revenues. Meng believes is platform will create a new, steady stream of revenue for news operations.

RJI hosts CLIMB Seed Idea Competition

On November 30, the Reynolds Journalism Institute hosted the final presentations of the first annual Seed Idea Competition, sponsored by CLIMB, (Collaboration, Leadership and Innovation in Missouri Business).

The competition drew participants from 22 departments across the University of Missouri campus, from both graduate and undergraduate students. The preliminary round of presentations was held on October 19th in the Trulaske School of Business, where six undergraduate and two graduate teams were selected as finalists.

With an objective to inventory local business assets for startup ventures, local entrepreneurs, as well as several community organizations assembled on September 13th, 2011 in RJI’s Palmer Room to hear from local leaders as well as to participate in hands-on information gathering exercise. The event entitled “Economic Gardening: Gathering Our Entrepreneurial Resource - Putting the Pieces Together” was the second such event produced in collaboration with Regional Economic Development, Inc. (REDI).
