Brian Houston - The impact of trauma on communities from Reynolds Journalism Institute (RJI)

Brian Houston, assistant professor in the Department of Communication and co-director of the Disaster and Community Crisis Center at the University of Missouri, discussed the impact of trauma on communities at "Trauma Journalism: Training for Educators" on Oct. 16, 2015.

The center is funded primarily by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) as part of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network. Houston's research is interdisciplinary and focuses on communication at all phases of disasters, and on the mental health effects and political consequences of community crises and violence. Houston's work has been supported by SAMHSA, National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), National Institute for Nursing Research (NINR), U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the Reynolds Journalism Institute.
