How to launch an Info District

Local news organizations are closing or struggling to stay afloat, thus dampening the ability of residents to participate effectively in their communities. Simon Galperin, Director of the Community Information Cooperative in New Jersey and a 2018-2019 Fellow at RJI, is leading the effort to prototype a new form of funding: taxpayer-supported information districts not unlike library and business improvement districts now functioning in many American cities and towns.

Download the complete report which includes Simon’s step-by-step guide to launch your own community info district.

  1. Scope your campaign
  2. Commit to an equitable process
  3. Begin mapping your information ecosystem
  4. Form a community advisory board
  5. Design your campaign
  6. Launch your campaign
