Past winner of Best Bootstrap Company at SXSW returns to Austin as co-author, presenter

Trina ChiassonTrina Chiasson, a 2013-2014 RJI Fellow, will share insights from “Data+Design,” an open source e-book about preparing data and building visualizations, during a SXSW session next week in Austin, Texas.

She is CEO of Infoactive, a startup with a Web-based platform that simplifies the process of creating interactive data visualizations. Chiasson, Dyanna Gregory and several contributors wrote Data+Design in 2014.

“Data Design: Where Math and Art Collide” will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Salon A at the J.W. Marriott. Chiasson will lead the session.

“Data+Design,” which was inspired during her fellowship at the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute, is now being translated into multiple languages including Chinese.

Since her fellowship ended, the Infoactive team has been working on customizations and themes within the platform to allow brands “to have their own look and feel” when creating data visualizations, Chiasson says. Changes include the addition of 10,000 new interactive icons, a more extensive color selection panel and an easier data import system.

Infoactive was named Best Bootstrap Company at the 2013 SXSW Accelerator competition.
